It looks like Notepad, it thinks like Notepad, but it’s … Google Notepad aka Nocs!

The big “G” seems to be doing anything in their power to provide Microsoft the competition they deserve.

With web-alternatives to many Microsoft’s products already in place, Google has developed their very own version of Notepad, which is downloadable for Windows. This article gives you an overview on what Nocs or Google Notepad, as many already call it, is all about …

Nocs, while still in the development phase, provides a decent alternative for Windows Notepad. When we compared the two, we couldn’t find a single option that Windows Notepad has and Nocs doesn’t, but did indeed find many that Nocs scored the points for:

  • Firstly, Nocs is designed to work with documents stored via your Google Account. It automatically connects to your account, fetching the list of your Nocs documents and allowing you to directly upload new documents.
  • Nocs provides an Auto-save feature, allowing you to tell it to automatically save and upload draft versions of your documents. You can specify the time period between autosaves yourself – choosing between 5 to 60 seconds. Should you not want to use the option, you can turn Autosave off

  • Perhaps most importantly, whatever you do with Google Nocs is absolutely safe, as you have the option to encrypt the text before sending it to Google! For this, you have to specify a key to use, which you can choose to save or to enter manually before each save.

It will be interesting to see the developments regarding Nocs as this is indeed a great niche they have found and there’s a lot more to do!
